Developing a
clear business case for outsourcing can be painfully
complicated. I've spent the past 20 years advising clients
about their outsourcing options, and I can assure you
that there are no simple industry-wide benchmarks, no
easy ROI calculations, no cookie-cutter models for successful
relationships.
To help you deal with your outsourcing options in a
well-organized way, I've developed a simple, fast, and
inexpensive advisory service.
- First, I help you identify the "low-hanging
fruit": I start by looking at business
functions where outsourcing is likely to give you
the highest short-term payback, with a minimum of
disruption and risk. By focusing on this "low-hanging
fruit," you can generally achieve surprisingly
large savings and also free up internal staff for
much more productive work.
- Then I build a formal business case for
outsourcing: I'll give you a realistic forecast
of costs and payback from outsourcing each of the
functions we identify in the first phase, paying special
attention to the next 12-18 months. I'll lay out an
objective time line for implementation, and I'll make
recommendations for "best practices" that
you should embed in your business processes. This
will be a business plan you can take to senior management
or to your board of directors--numbers you can trust,
based on solid expert experience.
- Finally, I set up a vendor-selection process:
Based on the tasks you choose to outsource, I'll create
a customized RFP document and give you a list of vendors
who have the appropriate staffing levels and industry
experience to make the changeover as seamless as possible.
This three-step process is designed to be completed
in about two weeks, at a modest cost.
